The Basement (Hotel Samilton) presents a night of electronic music with the DJ and producer VAEYA, recently signed onto the mighty Australian record label Zenon Records. Expect deep and intelligent minimal techno with strong lashings of musicality and futuristic sound design. The Night will also feature Yidam playing a DJ set.

Vaeya is Vaibhav / VB. After being introduced to his first outdoor party outside Bombay, India in 2002 he moved to Brisbane, Australia for university. After being a regular punter at parties for 2 years, he started to mess around in fruity loops writing music under the project name Vaeya in 2005. Over the years he has gotten more serious with his music. The diversity of people and music at parties, and the extreme vastness and untouched beauty of Australia was a massive influence on him. Progressive music being his main weapon of choice. He has a very flexible progressive style ranging from a very intelligent techy style to a nice lush progresssive sound and more in between.
Vaeya has played a whole bunch of parties and festivals around east coast Australia. He plays 2 completely different live sets, One style being Dark Intelligent Tech (more suited to the night time). The other style being a very Lush Progressive Sound which is perfect for the day time or the afternoon. Having moved back to Mumbai, India in march 2010 he joined forces with Occulta Records which is a Bangalore based progressive trance label. In mid 2011 he moved to New Delhi to work for event management and music label bad boy Audio Aashram – the only crew in India dedicated to showcase some of the best music from around the world to the Indian masses. He has played Live at festivals in India and Nepal such as Shanti Jatra 2011, Spring Zouk 2012, Escape Festival 2012, Earthdance Kolkata 2012, Go:Madras 2012, Celeste Festival 2013, Escape Festival Delhi 2013 to name a few.
Now in 2014, Vaeya has been signed on as the official label dj for Zenon Records in India.

Yidam is Varun’s projection of electronic ambient and chillout music. Manipulating and producing sounds since the mid-nineties, Varun’s habit of digging for eclectic music and playing for spaces resulted in focusing on downtempo electronica and performing at alternative stages and unconventional venues. Gigging in the States resulted in the formation of ChillUmafia DJ collective with Damon & Robyo in 2005. The subsequent years were spent managing a record label (DBR), experimenting with sound-healing & organising events in NYC and Chicago. After performing at Burning Man in 2008, Varun moved back to Kolkata to start a net-label (liquidfrequency.com), an event company (littlei.in) and set up a production studio. Since 2009 his DJ sets and tracks have been heard in India, Nepal, Poland, Switzerland, Germany and Portugal. A background in electronics has also resulted in the use of analog synths, digital controllers and interactive video as part of collaboration projects with jazz musicians and live electronic acts.
