Greeting 2011

 |  News

Wishing you all a wonderful new year! 2010 has been astonishing with more peaks and troughs than we could ever anticipate. November saw the longest Congo Square JazzFest to date sprawled over four days with over 4000 attendees.  We also so a movement of one of our newer concepts: Monday Blues, finding a home at Kolkata’s most celebrated live music venue:  Someplace Else at The Park. Monday Jazz Monday Blues has been buzzing well into the new year and has featured some incredible musicians from across the globe. If you haven’t dropped in already swing by after 8pm on Mondays.

December also brought a close to our most definitive weekly event. After 70 shows featuring close to 100 performances, Friday Night Live at The Big Ben had it’s finale on 17 December with a curtain call performance by PINKNOISE and a debut of one of the youngest bands in the city: The Monkey In Me.  FNL began as a revolutionary idea, giving the city a platform for non-cover music and we’ve seen a macrocosm evolve from the concept. Kolkata has truly shown that its live music scene is as diverse as it is proficient and we’re very grateful to see an exponential growth of original acts and promoters supporting them.

This 2011 will not only be a year of unfolding all our nascent ideas but also one where we plan to integrate them with the city on a much larger scale. It’s already looking to be the most exciting year yet and we hope to see more of you join in as we all contribute to Kolkata’s ongoing cultural transformation.
