About the show:

“…beautifully crafted and produced…a major talent.” This was Jack Douglas’s (legendary producer for the likes of John Lennon, The Who, Aerosmith and Miles Davis among others) review on sonicbids.com for T.L. Mazumdar’s Debut album “4 Walls”.

T.L. Mazumdar is a Multi-Instrumentalist/singer-songwriter/Producer who grew up on 3 continents and four countries and is based in Mannheim, Germany and Kolkata, India. While his Studio album was almost completely a solo effort with him on all instruments except drums, his live performances are an attempt to use his songs as vehicles to improvise with, using unconventional live instrumentation and electronica. An attempt to play for the song. But in the moment.

Wednesdays concert at Soho will feature stellar Kolkata Musicians: Amyt Datta, Monojit Datta and Jivraj Singh.

Amyt Datta

Amyt Datta (born 20 October 1960) is one of the most respected guitarists, composers, producers in India. He is also a greatly respected session musician, teacher and mentor. Amyt Datta toured extensively with the rock band Shiva from mid 80’s to 90’s. He now plays and composes for an experimental band PINKNOISE and rock band SKINNY ALLEY.

Collaborations: Trilok Gurtu, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Amit Chatterjee, Louiz Banks, George Brooks, Pete Lockett, Carl Clements, Ranjit Barot, Nicolas Fiszman, Amit Heri, Pam Crain, Bickram Ghosh, Abhijit Bannerjee, Tanmoy Bose, Greg Ellis, V Suresh, D-For-Brother, Monojit Datta, Anjan Dutta (Original scores for cinema), Amit Chaudhuri et al.

Monojit Datta

Monojit Datta is an inspiration for almost every musician in Calcutta. A percussionist extraordinaire, equally at home playing the flute, clarinet, keyboards, guitar, he had a dream, of playing authentic Latin music. He has nurtured his dream even while playing for rock bands such as Shiva and world music outrfit D for Brother, which he formed with his brother, guitar virtuoso Amyt Datta ( The duo released an album inder Plus music too) he has hand picked all the musicians in the band and trained them to become sensitive, talented and energetic contemporary musicians playing authentic Latin music. He has played with stalwarts such as Louis Banks, Ranjit Barrot, Remo Fernandes and has been awarded the Surendra Paul award for excellence in modern instrumental music.

His band Orient Express have established themselves as a standard in the Indian Latin music scene. His present Latin Jazz outfit Los Amigos recently shared the stage with Carlos Santana, Fourplay and other word class musicians at the Java Jazz Festival.

Jivraj Singh

Jivraj Singh’s beat manifesto is to play moods rather than patterns. His eclectic approach lies at the interface of industrial music, electronic culture, afrobeat and sound design. His influences are electricity, geometry, maps, trains, bees and dark humour.

Jivraj thinks like an architect and plays like a producer. What he brings to the table is the ability to drop glitchy textures, play brutal mechanistic beats, and manipulate sounds, all simultaneously and in real time.

Whether he’s playing a drumset, percussion, electro-mechanical machines, or any other hybrid setup, Jivraj sounds unmistakably like himself.
