Friends Of Fusion’s debut album review
Posted: The Telegraph, Jan 22, 2010 at 1213 hrs IST

Saregama India Ltd. releases the debut album of Friends Of Fusion. They perform Hindustani Classical songs with a contemporary approach and sound, treating it with ingredients of Jazz, Rock, Country, Hip-hop, Latin and a variety of other genres from the West. Their repertoire includes Raags, Bandishein, Thumris, folk music from the entire sub-continent, Bhajans, Bhatiyalis, Rabindra Sangeet and other forms. It is a unique space where strains of melodic blues guitar riffs, timbales and congas from the streets of Latin America find their way into the soul of a Raag Bhairavi. FOF comprises of Rajkumar Sengupta -Electric Guitar & Dotara, Neel Dutt – Acoustic Guitar & Nylon String Guitar, Arko – Vocals, Deboprotim – Drums & Percussions and Bijit – Bass. Rajkumar was the lead guitar player in the Latin band Orient Express. He is also a guitar player with Anjan Dutt and The Music Folk, teaches music in a city school and has composed for television programmes. Neel Dutt composed music for Bow Barracks Forever, The Bong Connection and other films. Arko is a formally-trained classical singer equally at home with Rock, Blues and Indian folk. He also teaches music. Debopratim is also an exponent of Latin Percussion including the Congas, Bongos, Darabuka and Timbales. A self-taught drummer, he used to perform drums and percussion with the Latin band Orient Express. Bijit is the bass guitarist. The album is priced at Rs 150.
