REProduce Listening Room at Cube Culture
Sunday, 5th March 2016, 4:00 – 9:00 PM
**Donor Passes available at the door at INR 300**
On Sunday, March 5th, New Delhi based music collective REProduce Artists will debut their Listening Room series in Kolkata. The series aims to fill a gap in the ever iterating and increasingly varied community of live music in India by showcasing talent that might not get heard in the more mainstream oriented venues. REProduce Listening Room will focus purely on the music – in a space where an audience can absorb sound on their own terms.
For this iteration we have partnered with Littlei, and we will produce a new space in Salt Lake – Cube Culture. Conceptualised as a creative space for a number of different engagements, the space presents over 8000 square feet of clean white walls, framed my high ceilings and over 6000 lumens of projection power. This iteration of the series will focus on a variety of artists from Kolkata itself, presenting a balance of textural pieces, vocals, guitar pieces, visual references, and new collaborations.
Curator’s note by Rana Ghose:
VvvvV (Kolkata, India)
I think Varun has 3 projects, I can’t keep track. Between that, Littlei, his wife and children, and putting on synth workshops and other events, he’s a busy dude – but we’ve been wanting to do LR in Kolkata for ages. So thank/curse Varun for this one. He’s sent me some work over the months that doesn’t really sound like what I’d think he’d do so VvvvV.
Jivraj Singh (Kolkata, India)
So yeah Jivraj and I have been wanting to do this for a while but dude is super busy obviously – but hey, it finally lined up. He is of course a drummer, you may be aware (duh) so he wanted to pilot a deployment that he has yet to anywhere else. Neither of us have any idea what to expect, which is generally a good thing because expectations are for suckers.
ShadowBlink (Kolkata, India)
Shailpik came to the LR at Jude Bakery last summer, I think he was on assignment in Bombay or something, can’t remember. He took some cool pics, then he sent me his music stuff, and then yeah. For this one he’s incorporating a lot of visuals, no idea. Varun saw his set the other day and said it was dope. Works for me.
Rivu (Kolkata, India)
I was looking for something to balance this out, and Varun passed me on toSubhagata. He spends most of his time scoring theatre in Kolkata, plays guitar, but also does production work. I think this will be his fourth show as Rivu, a project he’s had around for 2-3 years.
JESSOP&CO. (Kolkata, India)
FUCK EVERYONE
Amyt Datta (Kolkata, India)
After Kartik had to cancel I started asking who could replace him (of course he’s irreplaceable you know what I mean) and Jivraj suggesetd Amyt. After a few failed telephone connections we finally spoke the other day, and he seemed intrigued by what could happen here, and lo, so it came to pass. He suggested a sort of exploration of strings which to be sure could mean anything really (which suits this description fine).
Plastic Parvati (Kolkata, India)
I saw The Ganesh Talkies once years ago open for pcrc in a spot that Stef used to handle called Downstairs at Zo in HKV. As per Delhi guidelines that place was run by dicks and they didn’t pay Stef and some bullshit went down so fuck those guys but at least I got to see Suyasha do her thing. I’ve actually never seen her since. She has a new release coming out called Plastic Parvati. There you go.
