BASSISTER

From Mountain Madness in Nepal to the beaches of Goa, Vandana is making waves with sounds that keep you
hooked and grooving. She has known only one true love throughout her life, and that is music. She is a bass player
and a singer, and has been a loyal fan and supporter of the Indian music circuit for over a decade now. Vandana has traveled widely and been personally involved with multiple genres of music, ranging from rock to funk, fusion, jazz and the blues.

However, her world turned around when she first experienced electronic music. Soon she began performing as a DJ, playing sounds that could best be described as tribal and bass heavy, all in keeping with an intentionally non-conformist approach to the presentation of dance music. She is reputed for her excellent warm up sets and for her high energy peak time music that transcends the many sub-genres of dance music.

She has since performed alongside some of the world’s best international artists like Sultan, Ned Shepard, DJ Pearl, Atmos, Fatali, Kashyyyk, Manuel de la Mare, Nikhil Chinapa, Mad Maxx and Paul Thomas, Asad Freeatmah Zaidi, Priyanjana and Kini Rao, and has frequented some of the best venues India has to offer. Apart from her own gigs, Vandana keeps busy with multiple musical projects. She spent most of 2012 exclusively managing DJ Pearl – India’s senior-most female DJ who is also director of Submerge Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. Vandana toured with her constantly as Pearl’s official opening act.

As of 2013, she joined Midicore Studios in Mumbai as a sound engineer. DJ-ing will always be a very integral part of Vandana’s musical career as she loves to see happy, dancing people. Her sole purpose in life is, and always will be, to spread love through music.

YIDAM

Yidam is Varun’s projection of electronic ambient and chillout music. Manipulating and producing sounds since the mid-nineties, Varun’s habit of digging for eclectic music and playing for spaces resulted in focusing on downtempo electronica and performing at alternative stages and unconventional venues. Gigging in the States resulted in the formation of ChillUmafia DJ collective with Damon & Robyo in 2005. The subsequent years were spent managing a record label (DBR), experimenting with sound-healing & organising events in NYC and Chicago. After performing at Burning Man in 2008, Varun moved back to Kolkata to start a net-label (liquidfrequency.com), an event company (littlei.in) and set up a production studio. Since 2009 his DJ sets and tracks have been heard in India, Nepal, Poland, Switzerland, Germany and Portugal. A background in electronics has also resulted in the use of analog synths, digital controllers and interactive video as part of collaboration projects with jazz musicians and live electronic acts.
